Post Migrating from WinXP -> Linux
I've made the decision to abandon my WinXP-based cacti server. We have a little over 200 wireless devices to monitor, each one requiring about 10 scripts to run (to interpret ascii data into numerical data mostly). The script processing was killing the windows server, and it's now bumping up against the 300 second limit.

I have an old Compaq that I've loaded cactiEZ (0.3) onto. Even though it's a lot slower and has a lot less memory, it seems to be able to handle the processing much quicker than the "too many layers" in WinXP.

One false start: I attempted to transfer all the RRAs and the database from the WinXP server. Moby bad juju! The DB was probably incompatible (running 0.8.6j). But the really bad thing was that all the path names are embedded in the DB, and this really screwed things up.

So it looks like I won;t be able to transfer all the accumulated history over to the new machine.

UNLESS that is someone has come up with a cookbook for how to make this happen?

2 things. First, the database should have been fine, just rebuild the poller cache. The main problem is the RRD files themselves would have to be exported and re-imported to work.

There must be some data corruption; the thing went totally wiggy when I imported the data. Might explain some of the problems that I've been having with the windows box.

I have never found a "procedure" for exporting/importing a group of RRA files. Is there a link somewhere?

Search the RRDTool site, specifically the Export command.

im interested in the same thing. I am not worried about history, just about the devices themselves and them being able to start new graphs of what they are supposed to. I have almost 1000 devices and it wouldnt be fun to enter them again :( . I messed a little bit with importing the database, and was able to see the devices, but things were a little buggy and of course when i tried to view any graphs it said the rrd files arent there.

Would i just have to rebuild the poller cache and it should start anew?
