Post 0.8.7a Version?
THink you guys can put a new version together and get the new update working ? I love cactiez its perfect for us. I just have very little experience with linux and trying to update the version of cacti just broke our whole system. Getting an error now

previously declared in /var/www/html/lib/functions.php:991) in /var/www/html/lib/functions.php on line 1106

I could look up that line but I'm no programmer so I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Is it that big of a deal to update cacti, make sure it works and then re-image it?

Just wondering if we can expect anything anytime soon. :) Keep up the good work.

On the docs site, you can follow the steps there to upgrade from past Cacti version to current one:

http://docs.cacti.net/node/7

With that, you should also be able to fully rollback if upgrade is not functioning for you. You can apply this to the CactiEZ CD, downloading the 0.8.7a version from the html folder:

wget http://www.cacti.net/downloads/cacti-0.8.7a.tar.gz

and follow the instructions.

There's also documents making use of Ubuntu Linux to install Cacti. Either way, you can create the update, and rebundle it for your own archive also. That way you can restore the past image if all else fails, and also use it to create other Cacti sites (until the clustering portion is out where multiple cactii can work together from a central DB, which I'm waiting on, along with version 0.9 (date for that is a big ole ??? currently from what I see)).

To create your own CD, you'd follow the notes on the site:

Thanks for the info. The one site I did try to follow to update cacti was this:

http://www.cacti.net/download_patches.php

and it didnt work. But I will try the other procedure next. I tried the upgrade procedure and it didn't work.

I will do a fresh install of cactiez, and then try running that page you suggested. Thing is do I really need to back everything up if there is no data? Or should I still follow the entire instructions?

PS thanks for the help.

And again those instructions dont even apply to this install. As usual all of these linux based instructions and howtos are vague and don't even apply. For example the instructions on upgrade it says to unzip the tarball.. what tarball and where do I get it? The full install or is there an upgrade?

Then is says to do it to the cacti dir which dir is the cacti dir? There IS NO cacti dir on the cactiez install there is /var/www and from there who the hell knows where...

Hum... CactiEZ has nothing to do with the Cacti site, so don't expect the directions there to apply directly to it. They can't tell you where your Cacti install is, since they don't know. Its up to you to know your system and to learn about it. The CactiEZ CD is meant to make installation easy, after that, administration of the system is left up to you.

If you follow the upgrade steps on the Cacti site, then the installation of the PA steps on this site, then your upgrade should go smoothly. Its takes just a few minutes really, and isn't difficult at all.
