Plugin architecture problem

HELP! just recently i learned about the plugin architecture that you can add to cacti. I am running 0.8.7.b. install went fine. When i ran the patch file now i get this error when loggin into my cacti server

Fatal error: Call to undefined function api_plugin_hook() in /usr/share/cacti/site/include/global_arrays.php on line 620

Were there any errors during patching?

Use the override files instead of the patch and see if that helps.

there were a couple of errors when i ran the patch. So then i ran the "pre patched" files and still getting the same errors.. from the looks of it it seems like a small snippet of code that i need to edit but i don't know php at all...

You ran the prepatched files? You should override your current files with them.

Iran the diff file and also the pre-patch, with the diff file I got the error:

Call to undefined function api_plugin_hook()

for the pre patch I got :

Invalid PHP_SELF Path

I'm not an expert, but I did the installation three times and I got the same results.
