Post CactiEZ and IDE RAID Controller
Ok, so I'm trying to install CactiEZ (v0.1) on an older server with an IDE RAID controller (Promise Controller). It has two 40 GB HDD's in a RAID 1 array.

I put the CD in the CD-ROM and boot it up. The entire install sequence goes smoothly. When prompted, I remove the CD and hit [Enter] to reboot. The system begins to boot and freezes with "GRUB" showing on the screen with a flashing cursor beside it (to the right of the word GRUB).

I'm wondering if anybody has experienced this and can tell me:
1) Why it's happening?
and
2) How can I fix this so the system boots properly?

TIA.

Nevermind, I figured it out. It's an older Promise RAID Controller card and even with the drivers in hand (on a floppy) it still wouldn't work. So I cheated and grabbed an MRS drive from our hardware guru and it's working like a charm!

Why on earth would you install such an old version of the CactiEZ CD (v0.1)? That particular version was made only 3 years ago, and major issues have been fixed long ago in the newer version.

There's a simple reason. My boss installed that version onto a PC about 3 years ago and it's been running, and monitoring our network ever since.

We didn't upgrade it.

Now I want to move it from a PC to a server that I can put in our data center. I've figured out what data to move and have it setup and running on the new (to us) server. Now the only thing left for me to do is figure out how to upgrade to the most recent version without borking my install.

This was all my boss's doing initially. Had it been under my control, I'd have been upgrading it all along. Now that it is under my control, I will, as I said above, upgrade it, and continue doing so as long as I'm here.

Now, speaking of upgrading, you could save me having to create a new thread by pointing me to some info on how to do an upgrade. I'd really appreciate any help you could give me! :)
