SMTP Section of THOLD Plugin Questions
Hi all, I have been searching through trying to find an answer to my questions, but to no avail.
I am using the THOLD .3.4 and the latest cacti built from src etc.
My situation is i need a standalone linux box with cacti to send email notifications to an MS Exchange box which has been set up to work as a relay for the cacti box, Whats the best option for this?
1. PHPMail Function - Using the test email button simply returns the error (and cant find any info in logs)
Checking Configuration...
Creating Message Text...
This is a test message generated from Cacti. This message was sent to test the configuration of your Mail Settings.
Your email settings are currently set as follows
Method: PHP's Mailer Class
Sending Message...
Could not instantiate mail function.
__________
Apart from the GUI in the THOLD section under settings, what else needs editing to get this function working - from searching the forums I found that file class.phpmailer.php remains untouched.
--------------------------------------------
SMTP Section - After putting in the SMTP host of the Exchange relay server in the options and filling out the rest I get back the error
"The following From address failed: cactialerts@localhost"
Does this option require an SMTP client or server or nothing on the cacti box?
I havent tried sendmail as yet, as I dont want to bother a full email server as I dont need it.
If there is a tutorial on this, please point me in that direction
I have other windows boxes usiing BLAT for email notifications for other apps, and exchange relays these fine, Im guessing there is some setting which I cant find to get this working properly
Cheers
thx for your time

UPDATE:
I shouldnt have assumed the Exchange server SMTP connector service had been restarted - I can use SMTP now and the test email gets there.
PHPMail still doesnt work and spits same error, I would really like to know what I need to edit for this too work, as the GUI settings dont seem to do the job.

Edit php.ini, and search for the SMTP section. You need to specify the IP Address for your exchange server, and a send from address for this to work. Make the required changes, and try again with PHPMail.
Hope this helps.
