This plugin will visibly show you the Up / Down status of your hosts, and audibly alert you when one goes down.

Documentation
Monitoring for individual devices can be turned on or off via the Monitor Host checkbox under Console->Devices->(Edit). This will only turn on/off the icon on the monitor tab, the device will still be polled at its normal interval by Cacti. When turned on an icon will appear for that device on the monitor tab. Mousing over an icon will display the Device name, Status, IP Address, Ping time, Last Fail, and Percent availability in a tooltip. When a device goes down the icon will change to red, a mute button will appear, and the page will play a sound to alert you that something is down. The sound will repeat until the device recovers or the mute button is pressed.

If the threshold plugin is present, the monitor will show an orange icon when a threshold for that host is breached. It will not audibly alert (yet!).
